How to fight fatigue

There was a time, not too long ago, when I was very overweight, very tired and very, very cranky.  🙂

At that point in my life though, I thought I was eating healthy food. But was I really?

The truth was I wasn’t eating healthy food, I was eating “food-like” substances.

What are “food-like” substance?

Food or food-like substance?
Food or food-like substance?

Chicken-less chicken nuggets.

Soy cheese.

High-fiber cereals.

Low-carb tortilla wraps.

Non-dairy creamer.

These “food-like substances” were created in labs, by food chemists.  Food-like substances will usually stay ‘fresh’ forever, because they are not really food; there was nothing alive about it in the first place, so there is nothing to rot.

Eating these things makes us feel badly, mostly because our bodies are not designed to digest these novel/new substances! Our body has evolved to eat REAL food- from plants, from trees, from animals, from soil.

How ‘food-like’ substances rob our energy

How does our body show us it’s not happy with our food choices?

Let me count the ways:

  • fatigue
  • gas and bloating,
  • belching,
  • diarrhea,
  • constipation,
  • indigestion,
  • abnormal fat-gain,
  • foggy brain,
  • sleep disturbances,
  • even anxiety and depression.

These foods are usually hard to digest, causing many of the above problems and because of the extra effort required to digest, can make us feel tired and drained.

To top it all off, not only are these fake-foods devoid of any real nutrition, but because they require vitamins, minerals, amino acids and other nutrients for digestion, they use up nutrients and creating a deficit.

Just as you would not put sugar-water into your car’s gas tank

and expect performance results, you cannot put ‘fake-foods’

into your body and expect optimal performance and abundant energy.

It’s as simple as that.  Cut out the processed food-like substances, sugary desserts, fake-cheeses, breads, crackers, chips, grains and other fake-foods.

Ask yourself:

  • Did this come from nature or was it created in a lab?
  • Is it in a box or package?
  • Does it have more than 1 or 2 ingredients?
  • Is this a real food?

Let these questions guide your food choices.

Foods that fight fatigue

“Eat real food.” Ok, that sounds easy, but what does this advice look like in real life?

Formula to beat fatigue: Lots and lots of vegetables including roots and tubers, real fruits, organic, pastured meats, wild fish, some nuts, and seeds, butter, coconut oil and olive oils.

Eating these real foods will:

1) Properly nourish your body, instead of robbing it of nutrients

2) Relieve digestive stress and freeing up your bodies energy for other physiologic processes

3) Get you off the blood sugar roller coaster, which is a major
metabolic stress and can leave you TIRED (and/or wired), cranky and
foggy.

You’ll definitely feel an increase in energy and as a side benefit, you’ll probably also lose a few LBS, sleep better, and live longer.  You know, just minor things….

🙂
